ROLE DESCRIPTION

As our Founding Software & AI Engineer, you'll take ownership of the entire software ecosystem behind our diagnostic platform:from computer vision and AI to backend, user interfaces, and hardware integration.Your mission is to turn our research technology into a reliable, scalable, and commercially viable medical device.You'll work directly with the founding team, drive technical decisions, and shape how BugSense builds software as the company grows.

WHAT YOU'LL DRIVE

1. 1 | Own the Software Stack: Design and develop our end-to-end software platform:from backend infrastructure and data pipelines to user-facing applications, system integration, and deployment.
2. 2 | Build Intelligent Diagnostics: Develop and improve computer vision and machine learning models that translate colourimetric test signals into clinically meaningful results, including pathogen identification, bacterial load, and antibiotic resistance.
3. 3 | Bring Technology to Market: Connect imaging hardware, software, and clinical workflows into a robust diagnostic system. Establish scalable architecture, testing, documentation, and development processes aligned with medical device requirements.

WHAT YOU BRING

Must-haves

• Master Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI, or a related field OR equivalent practical experience
• Strong Python skills and experience building real-world software applications
• Hands-on experience with computer vision and machine learning
• Understanding of backend development, APIs, and software architecture
• Ability to take ownership, solve problems independently, and think beyond individual features
• An entrepreneurial mindset. You care about building a product, not just writing code
