Four Tenure-Track Associate Professorships (W2) in Infection Susceptibility

Hannover Medical School (MHH) invites applications for four tenure-track Associate Professorships (W2) within the Cluster of Excellence RESIST – Resolving Infection Susceptibility , funded under Germany’s Excellence Strategy. The positions offer the opportunity to establish independent research groups in genetics, computational immunology, microbiota research, or molecular virology within a highly interdisciplinary and internationally visible research environment. RESIST investigates why individuals differ in their susceptibility to infectious diseases and in disease course and outcome, integrating genetics, immunology, virology, microbiota research, and data-driven approaches. Appointments will start on January 1, 2027 . Each position is initially limited to five years , with the possibility of tenure following a successful external evaluation.

Positions

The four positions cover complementary core areas:

  • Genetics of Infection Susceptibility
  • Computational Immunology
  • Microbiota and Viral Infections
  • Molecular Virology and Systems Biology

Each appointment includes the possibility to establish and lead an independent research group as well as active participation in RESIST’s interdisciplinary program.

Profile

We seek outstanding scientists with an international research profile and a strong record of competitive third-party funding . Relevant expertise may include:

  • Human genetics and genomics of infection susceptibility, including the systematic dissection of polygenic architectures and polygenic risk modelling
  • Computational and systems immunology, including large-scale and longitudinal datasets, machine learning, and AI-based integration
  • Microbiota research in viral infections and host–microbe interactions
  • Molecular virology and systems biology, including virus–host interactions and multi-omics approaches

A strong interest in translational research and mechanisms of individual infection susceptibility is highly desirable.

Teaching and Environment

Candidates are expected to contribute to innovative teaching in medicine and life sciences, including the model medical curriculum HannibaL , and to demonstrate a collaborative and inclusive leadership style.

MHH offers an excellent interdisciplinary research environment with close links to national research networks and additional excellence initiatives.

Application
