GL Accountant

Overview

At Sunrock, we are accelerating the transition to clean energy by transforming unused rooftop space into valuable solar assets. To support our growth in Germany, we are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented General Ledger Accountant who will help build a scalable and high-performing finance function.

As General Ledger Accountant, you will ensure the accuracy and integrity of the financial records of our German business. You will own key accounting processes, contribute to month-end and year-end closings, support audits and tax compliance, and collaborate with colleagues across Finance, including Controlling, Tax and Treasury.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and reconcile the general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments in accordance with German GAAP (HGB) and IFRS.
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities including account analysis and balance sheet account reconciliations.
• Reconcile intercompany transactions and resolve discrepancies.
• Prepare VAT filings in compliance with local tax regulations, and explore opportunities to insource VAT submission.
• Post monthly payroll journals.
• Assist in preparing financial statements and supporting schedules for audits.
• Monitor compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
• Act as a back‑up for O2C processes by managing Accounts Receivable, ensuring timely and accurate customer invoicing and self-billing invoice processing.
• Support process improvements and automation initiatives within the accounting function.
• Collaborate with other finance teams to ensure data integrity (Central Accounts Payable & GL, Financial Controller, Treasury).
• Support drawdown processes by delivering timely drawdown requests to Treasury.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in general ledger accounting or a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of German GAAP (HGB) and GAAP/IFRS principles.
• Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Oracle NetSuite) and MS Excel.
• Experience with intercompany accounting and reconciliations.
• Understanding of VAT rules, reverse charge, and EU cross-border VAT handling.
• Proficient in written and spoken German and English.
