Ground-Segment IV&V Engineer - (CRISTAL / CIMR)

Stellenbeschreibung:

Help integrate and verify a multi-mission Ground Segment.

For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are looking for a Ground Segment & IV&V Engineer to support the CRISTAL and CIMR Copernicus missions within the C3PO Ground Segment.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working across Systems Engineering, Ground Segment integration, software, data processing and verification & validation.

Rather than focusing on a single subsystem, you will work across the interfaces between different Ground Segment elements and help ensure that they function correctly together, from individual components through to end-to-end mission data processing.

The C3PO Ground Segment

The C3PO Ground Segment is a common Ground Segment supporting the CRISTAL and CIMR missions.

It includes:

  • Payload Data Processing (PDP)
  • Product Generation Functions (PGFs)
  • CFDP Front-End Processor (CFEP)
  • Multi-Mission Elements (MMEs)

The Ground Segment provides the infrastructure and functions required to ingest, process, manage and disseminate mission data and products.

Your role

As a Ground Segment & IV&V Engineer, you will:

  • Plan, coordinate and execute Ground Segment integration, verification and validation activities.
  • Review requirements, specifications, design and interface documentation and verification evidence.
  • Prepare and review test specifications, test procedures, test data and test reports.
  • Maintain traceability between requirements, tests, results and verification evidence.
  • Support formal testing activities including FAT, OSAT, TRRs and TRBs.
  • Participate in Test Executions and formal Verification Control Boards (VCBs).
  • Prepare and maintain Verification Control Documents (VCDs).
  • Ensure consistency between verification activities at Ground Segment, Ground Segment Element and subsystem level.
  • Support software and hardware configuration, installation, deployment and integration activities.
  • Investigate anomalies and support corrective actions.
  • Review documentation from lower-level Ground Segment elements.
  • Participate in formal project reviews and follow up Review Item Discrepancies (RIDs).
  • Contribute to Ground Segment and System-level engineering activities.
  • Work closely with EUMETSAT teams, external partners, suppliers and other service providers.

From individual components to end-to-end mission data

A key part of your role will be supporting Mission Data Processing within C3PO.

You will:

  • Coordinate and support the Product Generation Function (PGF) OSAT environment.
  • Review PGF test documentation and verification status.
  • Participate in TRRs, Test Executions and TRBs/VCBs.
  • Consolidate PGF-level verification status at Ground Segment level.
  • Support the integration of PGFs with the Payload Data Processing (PDP).
  • Support verification of the CRISTAL CFDP Front-End Processor and File Reconstructor.
  • Support preparation of the CFEP test environment and formal testing.
  • Support integration of the CFEP with the wider Ground Segment.
  • Participate in Ground Segment end-to-end testing of mission data-processing functions.

What makes this role interesting?

  • Work on two Copernicus missions within a common multi-mission Ground Segment.
  • Gain broad exposure across Ground Segment engineering, data processing, integration and IV&V.
  • Work across multiple interfaces rather than being limited to a single software component.
  • Follow the data flow from individual Ground Segment elements through to end-to-end mission processing.
  • Gain experience with PGFs, PDP, CFDP and operational Ground Segment environments.
  • Work closely with EUMETSAT engineers and international partners.

What we're looking for

Mandatory:

  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated professional experience in Systems Engineering and IV&V at System and Ground Segment level, preferably within Earth Observation.
  • Proven experience with Ground Segment engineering and verification.
  • Experience preparing and executing integration and verification activities.
  • Experience preparing test specifications, procedures, test data and reports.
  • Experience with requirements engineering, allocation and traceability, preferably using DOORS.
  • Knowledge of space and Ground Segment engineering processes and software lifecycles, ideally ECSS.
  • Knowledge of CCSDS / CFDP.
  • Experience with interface management and ICDs.
  • Experience with formal testing such as FAT, OSAT, TRR and TRB.
  • Experience with VCDs and verification-control processes.
  • Strong technical documentation, analytical and communication skills.
  • Experience with CRISTAL, CIMR or another Earth Observation mission.
  • Experience with Payload Data Processing and/or Product Generation Functions.
  • Experience with L0/L1/L2 processing chains.
  • DOORS / VERDI experience.
  • Python and/or Bash.
  • Automated testing and CI/CD.
  • Jira/Xray.
  • Experience with operational Ground Segment environments.
  • Experience with CCSDS/NetCDF test data.
  • Knowledge of Linux, virtualisation, containerisation or other Ground Segment technologies.

Working environment

This is a full-time position based at EUMETSAT's premises in Darmstadt, Germany.

You will work directly within the EUMETSAT engineering environment in Darmstadt, collaborating with mission teams, Ground Segment specialists, partners and suppliers.

Start date: Planned for early 2027, subject to contract kick-off
