Head of Accounting --> Pathway to Head of Finance position

My client is a global commodities business seeking a Head of Accounting reporting directly to the VP Finance. The role acts as the central go‑to accounting expert within the group, working closely with local accountants across international entities in the USA, Africa, and Asia.

The Head of Accounting will take ownership of technical accounting matters, support month‑end close processes, and ensure consistency in group reporting across a complex, multi‑entity environment undergoing rapid growth and transformation. The role requires fluent German and English, a hands‑on and solution‑oriented mindset, and the willingness to travel globally when required to support and align with local finance teams on‑site.

This is a highly visible position within the finance organisation, offering a clear long‑term progression path into Head of Finance as the business continues to scale. The role follows a 5 days in‑office policy to ensure close collaboration with the finance leadership team and strong operational alignment.

Your Responsibilities

• Act as the primary go‑to accounting expert for international subsidiaries across the group
• Support and oversee month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes
• Ensure accuracy and consistency of group reporting across multiple entities and jurisdictions
• Provide technical accounting guidance to local finance teams in the USA, Africa, and Asia
• Collaborate closely with the VP Finance on reporting, controls, and finance transformation initiatives
• Drive improvements in accounting processes, controls, and reporting standards
• Support consolidation activities and ensure alignment of local accounting practices with group requirements
• Travel internationally when required to support and align with local finance teams on‑site

Desired Qualifications

• Fluent German and English (mandatory)
• Strong background in financial accounting, reporting, and month‑end close processes
• Experience working in a multi‑entity or international environment
• Solid technical accounting knowledge (HGB and/or IFRS preferred)
• Hands‑on, pragmatic approach with strong problem‑solving skills
• Ability to act as a trusted advisor to local finance teams
• Experience working with or supporting consolidation processes is an advantage
• Previous experience in a senior accountant, financial accountant, or similar role

The salary range for this position is €70,000 – €100,000 – My client may be open to slightly higher salary expectations based on the candidates experience.
