Head of Legal – Renewable Energy | Hamburg

An exciting opportunity for a qualified Head of Legal to join a fast-growing, internationally backed renewable energy company with a major presence in Germany. This is a strategic legal role supporting a well-established team based in Hamburg, working on a broad mix of renewable energy projects across the full lifecycle — from acquisition through to operations.

This organisation is a key player in the energy transition — with a strong focus on solar PV, battery storage, and hydrogen solutions. Backed by a leading global energy group, the business continues to scale rapidly across Europe, with Germany as one of its core markets. The legal team plays a central role in project delivery and investment activity.

The Role:

You will lead a legal team across Germany’s renewable energy portfolio, working closely with investment, development, and asset management teams. The work is broad and varied, offering exposure to complex commercial and transactional matters at all stages of the project cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead transactions across the full lifecycle of renewable energy projects
• Review, draft and negotiate a range of agreements including acquisition, development, EPC, PPA, and financing contracts
• Advise on M&A, regulatory, corporate, and commercial matters relevant to the German market
• Work closely with external counsel and manage internal stakeholders across functions
• Lead legal governance and risk management activities in Germany

The Person:

• Fully qualified lawyer in Germany with up to 8+ years' PQE in a leadership role.
• Leadership experience in the renewables or energy sector preferred (in-house or top-tier private practice)
• Confident advising across a wide range of legal topics related to project development and energy transactions
• Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken
• Collaborative, commercially minded, working in a fast-paced international environment
