Role Overview

The HSEQ Geography Leader Europe Central will manage a team of HSEQ Business Partners and Advisers across the Netherlands, Germany and Poland. This role reports to the EIMEA Region HSEQ Leader and partners with local leadership to deliver HSEQ activities that enhance project delivery, objectives and policy outcomes. The role is based in one of the Arup offices within the Europe Central Region and requires proficiency in German, Dutch or Polish as well as English, with competency in Safety, Environment or Quality within at least one of the region countries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, support and motivate the HSEQ team to deliver excellent service.
  • Allocate resources and manage workloads to ensure efficient and equitable service delivery.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive environment that encourages open dialogue and diverse perspectives.
  • Identify training needs and development opportunities for team members.
  • Mentor and coach staff to enhance skills and career progression.
  • Translate strategic client directions into actionable HSEQ plans across the region.
  • Communicate risk profiles and support growth ambitions with clear HSEQ insights.
  • Monitor service portfolios for changes in risk profile and validity of accreditations and certifications.
  • Build external presence, attend industry events, and develop professional networks.
  • Establish a top‑10 client list and deepen relationships to influence outcomes beyond contractual value.
  • Partner with local Project Directors and project teams to embed HSEQ in project delivery.
  • Support commercial teams with technical and operational advice for bids and pre‑qualification.
  • Promote high standards of work and ensure consistent, efficient approaches to deliver on time.
  • Lead compliance reviews, address significant non‑compliance, and ensure statutory obligations are met.
  • Manage local training provision and maintain competency validity.
  • Advocate continuous improvement, including digital and process solutions.
  • Own delivery of excellence and strategic projects across the region.
  • Maintain strong customer focus with a deep understanding of client drivers and needs.
  • Model a growth mindset, embrace new ways of working and adapt to dynamic environments.
  • Partner on quality management, audits, and continuous system improvement.
  • Promote a culture of care around safety, health and wellbeing.
  • Lead environmental initiatives, data management and compliance assurance.
  • Oversee business continuity and emergency preparedness plans.

Qualifications and Attributes

  • Proficiency in Quality, Safety or Environmental Management within Germany, Netherlands or Poland.
  • Proficiency in English and at least one of Dutch, German or Polish.
  • Professional qualification in a discipline of Quality, H&S or Environmental Management.
  • Knowledge of all HSEQ disciplines and an ability to develop it further.
  • Passion for driving HSEQ forward and a desire to deliver excellence for clients.
