Job Description
We are seeking an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Designer to join our growing team in the water and wastewater engineering space. This role is ideal for a technically strong designer with experience in P&IDs, BIM/CAD tools, and multi-discipline coordination, particularly within infrastructure, utilities, or industrial environments. In this position, you will contribute to the development of instrumentation and control system designs, supporting projects from concept through execution.
Candidates may come from electrical, instrumentation, controls, or mechanical/process backgrounds, provided they have strong experience with P&IDs and drafting environments.
Responsibilities
- Develop and support instrumentation and control system drawings, including:
- P&IDs (Process & Instrumentation Diagrams)
- PFDs (Process Flow Diagrams)
- Loop diagrams and I/O wiring diagrams
- Produce and revise drawings using MicroStation and AutoCAD
- Utilize BIM‑based, data‑driven P&ID platforms (Plant 3D, CADWorx, OpenPlant)
- Create:
- Instrument data sheets
- Control panel layouts and elevations
- SCADA block diagrams
- Assist in material takeoffs, estimates, and project documentation
- Support interdisciplinary coordination across engineering teams
- Perform quality checks to ensure compliance with CAD/BIM standards
- Provide basic technical support for 2D CAD applications
- Assist in flow meter sizing and selection
- Contribute to design efforts involving:
- Instrumentation systems
- Fiber routing
- Network and control cabinets
Qualifications
- 2-5 years of experience in engineering design or related field
- Associate degree or 2‑year technical degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
- Proficiency in:
- AutoCAD and MicroStation
- 2D electrical and instrumentation schematics
- Experience with P&ID CAD/BIM software (Plant 3D, CADWorx, OpenPlant preferred)
- Basic understanding of:
- Instrumentation and control systems
- ISA (International Society of Automation) standards
- Water/wastewater or infrastructure design
- Familiarity with:
- Data conversion between MicroStation and AutoCAD
- Fiber optic routing and basic networking concepts
- Ability to work on multi‑discipline projects
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, hybrid environment
Preferred Backgrounds
- Instrumentation & Controls, Electrical, or Mechanical/Process design
- Experience in industries such as:

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Denver, CO.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
