Position Overview

The Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Science at Tübingen University invites applications for the position of Junior Professor (W1 with tenure track to W3) of Organic Chemistry. The position is due to commence as soon as possible.

Responsibilities

  • Set up an independent research group and strengthen the research priorities of the Department.
  • Actively participate in joint projects and establish a cooperative research program for the innovative synthesis of application‑relevant organic molecules.
  • Collaborate with the Cluster of Excellence “Controlling Microbes to Fight Infections” (CMFI), the “Sustainable Development” initiatives of the Department of Chemistry, and the Center for Light‑Matter Interaction, Sensors & Analytics (LISA+).
  • Teach Organic Chemistry in undergraduate and graduate programmes in chemistry and in other study courses.
  • Teach in German (undergraduate level) and English (graduate level).
  • Participate in academic self‑government at the Department of Chemistry.

Qualifications

  • Outstanding doctorate in a pertinent field.
  • International publications and evidence of third‑party grants (fellowship, scholarship).
  • Teaching experience.
  • For a Tenure‑Track professorship with a PhD from Tübingen, the candidate must have changed universities after completing their doctorate or worked in academia and/or research for at least two years elsewhere.

Teaching Load and Requirements

The position has a teaching load of four hours per week prior to interim evaluation, and six hours thereafter.

Evaluation and Tenure Track

This Tenure‑Track position is subject to an interim evaluation after four years and a final evaluation after six years. If the final evaluation is positive, the professorship will be upgraded to a full (W3) professorship with no re‑advertising of the position. Candidates who have completed a habilitation will be excluded.
