The Medical Faculty, Department of Internal Medicine I (Medical Director Prof. Dr. Thomas Seufferlein), is seeking to fill the position, starting as soon as possible, of a
Junior Professorship (W1-Professur) of Neudecker-Scott Foundation for Carcinogenesis and Tumor Propagation in the Pancreas (m/f/d) – no management responsibilities
The professorship should, in accordance with the purpose of the Foundation, make significant contributions in the field of basic and/or translational research with a particular focus on the early detection of pancreatic cancer. Approaches to elu-cidate the genesis, and/or propagation of pancreatic cancer are also welcome. We particularly encourage unconventional and innovative research approaches.
Furthermore, the professorship should strengthen strategic development areas of the University as well as the corre-sponding research priorities of the Department of Internal Medicine I by transferring fundamental scientific findings into clinical practice. The future post holder should initiate basic and translational research projects and actively participate in existing and future collaborative projects within the faculty. Involvement in the Comprehensive Cancer Center Ulm as well as in the NCT-SW is encouraged. Research projects at the Medical Faculty are supported by numerous core facilities, such as a Core Facility for Organoids( .
Regular participation in curricular and extracurricular teaching for students of human medicine and dentistry, as well as for Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Molecular Medicine, is expected. In addition, supervision of students within the context of Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral theses is required.
Employment is as a temporary civil servant or as an employee; as a rule, for a term of 6 years.
The requirements for appointment, in addition to the general civil service requirements, include a completed university degree in a life science discipline (Molecular Medicine, Biochemistry, Biology or related subjects), aptitude for teaching, and particular ability in scientific work, which is generally demonstrated by the outstanding quality of a doctoral thesis (§ 51 sec. 2 LHG). A list of publications that evidences particular aptitude for scientific excellence is also required. Central to the role is research experience in the specified subject areas.
