Lead Accountant

Location: Berlin, Germany (Hybrid – 2 days onsite per week)

With a strong focus on scalability, automation, and data-driven decision-making, we are looking for a hands‑on Accounting Team Lead to strengthen our finance function and support our next phase of growth.

Role Overview

As Team Lead Accounting, you will oversee the day‑to‑day accounting operations while managing and developing a team of four. You will ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain compliance with local and international standards, and drive process improvements in a dynamic SaaS environment.

This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to someone who combines strong technical accounting expertise with a proactive, operational mindset.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 4 accounting professionals
• Allocate workloads, set priorities, and ensure high performance
• Foster a collaborative and continuous improvement culture
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Ensure accurate preparation of financial statements (HGB; IFRS experience is a plus)
• Review reconciliations, journal entries, and balance sheet positions

SaaS‑Specific Accounting

• Manage revenue recognition in line with SaaS models (subscriptions, ARR, deferred revenue)
• Partner with FP&A on revenue reporting and forecasting
• Support audit processes and ensure audit readiness

Compliance & Controls

• Ensure compliance with German GAAP (HGB), tax regulations, and internal policies
• Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting processes
• Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and authorities

Process Improvement & Systems

• Drive automation and efficiency across accounting workflows
• Optimize ERP and finance systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, or similar)
• Support finance transformation and scaling initiatives

Requirements

Experience & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5–8+ years of accounting experience, ideally within SaaS or tech
• Previous experience leading or mentoring a team
• Strong knowledge of HGB; IFRS knowledge is a plus

Technical Skills

• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, DATEV)
• Solid understanding of SaaS revenue recognition principles
• Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with automation tools is a plus
