Lead Quant Analyst- Power Trading (m/f/d)

In this role you shape and enhance analytical frameworks for European power trading, turning market insights into sound trading decisions. You will work closely with traders to translate fundamentals into actionable models and P&L impact, while driving the desk's analytical capability forward. The position sits in Statkraft’s Continental Power Trading hub, contributing to a mission of advancing clean energy solutions. You’ll lead development of tools and present clear recommendations to the Head of Continental Power Trading and cross-functional partners.

• Develop, enhance, and maintain analytical models, tools, and frameworks for European power trading
• Translate market fundamentals, exposures, and opportunities into actionable insights
• Analyze market trends, supply-demand dynamics, generation, weather, transmission constraints, interconnectors, and other price drivers
• Maintain and develop internal and external relationships to strengthen market intelligence
• Evaluate current analytical capabilities and define a roadmap for future development
• Identify gaps in tools, datasets, and market intelligence and implement improvements
• Collaborate with traders to convert requirements into practical analytical solutions
• Contribute ideas to enhance P&L generation across European power markets
• Communicate progress, priorities, requirements, and obstacles clearly and proactively

• University degree in Mathematics, Economics, Science or similar
• Substantial experience in fundamental analysis and modelling of European Power markets, ideally across multiple trading houses
• Extensive hands-on experience building and running fundamental models to form independent market views
• In-depth knowledge of German, French and UK power markets and their drivers
• Knowledge of cross-border flows, interconnectors, transmission constraints, and capacity markets
• Strong understanding of weather impacts on demand, renewables output, and prices
• Minimum 5 years in a commercial trading environment where analytics supported trading and revenue generation
• Understanding of how traders identify opportunities, construct positions, and generate profit
• Ability to extend existing models and tools rather than recreate work
• Creative, curious, open to new methods; not tied to one approach
• Confidence to advise desk leadership on strategy and translate analysis into recommendations
• Demonstrated ability to deliver analytical projects from concept to implementation
• Preference for analytics-driven work and capability-building
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to engage at all levels
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail
