Lead Software Engineer, Engagement

Stellenbeschreibung:

Overview

Finnair is a diverse community of professionals focused on safety, sustainability, and delivering an outstanding customer experience. We are strengthening the Digital Engineering team and are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to own the cross-cutting technical direction across the Engagement tribe, which builds the digital experience for Finnair Plus members across web and app, including loyalty services, identity and access management, and integrations with partners and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Set the technical and architectural direction for the tribe, shaping quality, testing, security and design.
  • Own the shared frameworks and tooling used across teams, and maintain a pragmatic dialogue about which technologies fit our needs.
  • Help complex work succeed across teams by running proofs-of-concept and discussing roadmaps with key vendors to turn unknowns into knowns, and unblock cross-team decisions.
  • Share reusable solutions and good practices beyond your own teams, and contribute to technical discussions across the wider engineering organization.
  • Explore how AI can change how the tribe designs, builds and operates software, and guide its adoption across teams.
  • Stay close to the work by reviewing designs, contributing to technical decisions, and coding when it matters.

What success could look like

  • In the first months, you know the tribe’s systems and key technical questions and share a clear direction with peers and stakeholders.
  • Within the first year, you help shape significant technical efforts and establish patterns for the teams to follow.
  • Over time, the tribe becomes stronger technically with better architecture, faster delivery of complex work, and a stronger technical voice beyond its own teams.

Qualifications

  • Around 7–10+ years in software development, including several years as a technical lead for a team, with a track record of building and running complex, cloud-native, high-load systems on AWS.
  • Genuine full-stack capability, comfortable across web front-end (Angular/TypeScript) and backend services (Node.js/TypeScript, with some Java/Spring).
  • Solution architecture and systems/integration design skills with strong analytical thinking and planning.
  • Good grasp of automated testing and building solutions that are testable by design.
  • Experience with secure software development and architecture.
  • Comfort leading without formal authority and ability to bring people along through clarity and credibility.
  • Product mindset—considering how technical and UX decisions affect members and the business.
  • Strong collaboration and proactivity; ability to spot problems and opportunities early.
  • Genuine interest in modern, AI-assisted development.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (or equivalent experience).

Nice to have

  • Experience in loyalty, e-commerce, or other transaction-heavy, consumer-facing products.
  • Familiarity with authentication and authorization (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SSO).
  • Strong observability practices in production (structured logging, metrics, error/crash analytics, performance monitoring — e.g., Datadog).
  • Experience in an airline or other regulated, high-security domain.
