Master Thesis – AI-Based Condition Monitoring for Drive Systems (f/m/div)

Stellenbeschreibung:

Your Role

The objective of this thesis is to develop a comprehensive AI-based condition monitoring solution for industrial drive systems. The focus is on synthetic data generation, machine learning model development and training, deployment on microcontrollers, and validation under realistic operating conditions. A specific use case is the detection and monitoring of DC-Link capacitor degradation. The thesis will be conducted in close cooperation with Drive Application Experts, AI Software Development Teams, Microcontroller Development Teams, and potentially external research and industrial partners.

Key responsibilities

  • Familiarization with existing drive system architectures and Simulink models
  • Development of simulation scenarios and generation of synthetic datasets through systematic parameter variation
  • Data pre-processing, feature extraction, and labeling for machine learning applications
  • Development, training, and evaluation of AI/ML algorithms for condition monitoring
  • System validation, performance analysis, and evaluation of the overall solution
  • Documentation and presentation of technical results

Your Profile

Qualifications and skills to help you succeed

  • Studying Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Good knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink; knowledge of power electronics and motor drive systems is an advantage
  • Basic programming skills in Python and/or C/C++; strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
