Operational Cultural Advisor (SAG-U)

In this role you will serve as an embedded Operational Cultural Advisor with SAG-U, supporting senior leadership across Europe and Ukraine operations. You will shape relationships with AFU, enable mission coordination, and provide cultural and analytical guidance to enhance decision-making in a high-stakes, multinational environment. The position combines strategic advisory work with hands-on engagement in Kyiv and wider EUCOM theaters, offering impactful contributions to mission success.

• Provide expert advisory support to develop and sustain relationships with the Armed Forces of Ukraine
• Coordinate meetings and engagements with AFU personnel and ensure documentation support
• Support logistical coordination of meetings and administrative requirements
• Offer recommendations on SAG-U planning options and mission concepts to aid leadership decisions
• Identify operational challenges and risks related to ongoing plans
• Serve as interpreter/translator between Ukrainian and English (and Russian when possible)
• Maintain current contact rosters of AFU personnel in approved systems
• Develop After-Action Reports for SAG-U leadership with observations on TTPs
• Contribute to Partner Engagement Reports and command reporting
• Prepare memos, briefings, and information papers with operational observations and cultural analysis
• Provide direct cultural advisory support during leader engagements with Ukrainian counterparts

• Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of relevant experience
• Current TS/SCI clearance with fully adjudicated eligibility
• 8+ years of experience supporting the U.S. Armed Forces, including deployed environments
• Experience supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine or Ukrainian institutions
• Strong understanding of U.S. joint military structures and doctrinal principles
• Knowledge of Russian tactics, drone warfare, and intelligence collection
• Familiarity with AFU operations, unmanned systems, logistics, and medical support
• Familiarity with U.S., NATO, and partner-provided equipment used by the AFU
• Ability to travel with short notice within Europe and worldwide
• Language proficiency: Ukrainian DLPT 3+/3+/3+ or higher; Russian DLPT 3/3/3 or higher preferred
• Foreign Area Officer (FAO) experience highly desired
• Must not be at risk under Ukrainian Mobilization Law
• Security and conduct requirements as stated (no adverse government actions in past 3 years)
