Optical Design Engineer – Meta-surfaces / EM Simulations / Lithography

Stellenbeschreibung:

We are looking for an Optical Design Engineer to join a world leading technology company at their technology centre in Greater Munich Metropolitan Area .

You are a skilled optical design engineer to work on the conceptualization and refinement of meta-surface technologies. This role is pivotal in driving innovation for next‑generation optical components, bridging the gap between theoretical electromagnetic simulation and real‑world semiconductor fabrication.

As an Optical Design Engineer your responsibilities will include:

  • Architectural Design : Develop and refine high-performance meta‑surface geometries specifically for beam steering, advanced polarization management, and precise optical filtering.
  • EM Modeling : Utilize a combination of internal proprietary software, open‑source frameworks, and commercial simulation packages to perform rigorous electromagnetic analysis.
  • Fabrication Integration : Work in close partnership with process engineering teams to ensure that complex optical designs are compatible with standard wafer‑level manufacturing techniques, such as etching, deposition, and DUV lithography.
  • Iterative Testing : Conduct thorough characterization of manufactured components and apply findings to optimize subsequent design cycles.
  • Technical Documentation : Maintain comprehensive design records and manage the documentation required to protect intellectual property.

As an Optical Design Engineer your skills will include:

  • Master's or PhD in Optics, Physics, Materials Science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • 3+ years in the design of meta‑surfaces.
  • Profound understanding of wavefront manipulation, resonant optical structures, and Finite‑Difference Time‑Domain (FDTD) simulation methodologies.
  • Practical background in manufacturing protocols, including Reactive Ion Etching (RIE), lithography, lift‑off, and Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) etching.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in machine learning‑driven optimization and inverse design techniques.
  • Hands‑on experience with device characterization tools, including Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), spectroscopy, and ellipsometry.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Collaborative mindset, with the proven ability to thrive within a diverse, multidisciplinary team environment.
