Opto-Mechanical Engineer

We are supporting a leading technology company developing advanced inspection and metrology systems for the semiconductor industry. Due to ongoing project demand, we are looking for an experienced Opto-Mechanical Engineer to join the engineering team on a 6-month freelance contract.

The Role

You will support the development, integration and optimisation of precision opto-mechanical assemblies used within high-performance measurement and inspection equipment. This role is ideal for someone with experience in semiconductor equipment, optical metrology, laser-based systems or precision instrumentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop precision opto-mechanical components and assemblies.
• Integrate optical elements including lenses, mirrors, filters, sensors, cameras and laser modules.
• Support alignment, calibration and integration of optical systems.
• Conduct tolerance analysis for mechanical and optical assemblies.
• Work closely with optical, mechanical, electronics and software teams.
• Support prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting and validation.
• Produce CAD models, technical drawings and engineering documentation.
• Liaise with suppliers and manufacturing partners where required.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optics, Photonics, Mechatronics or similar.
• Experience in opto-mechanical design or precision mechanical engineering.
• Background in optical systems, imaging, metrology or laser-based equipment.
• Strong CAD experience, e.g. SolidWorks, Creo, Siemens NX or similar.
• Understanding of optical alignment, tolerance analysis and precision assembly.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary R&D or product development environments.
• German-speaking required.
• Semiconductor inspection or metrology equipment.
• Wafer inspection, surface measurement or 3D metrology.
• Optical sensors, cameras, illumination systems or interferometry.
• Vibration, thermal or stability considerations for precision systems.
