Performance Staff Software Engineer (SSE Architecture): Lead performance testing, data generation frameworks, and optimization initiatives for a scalable cloud service platform with an accent on performance standards, benchmarking, and system efficiency. Focus on designing reusable frameworks, analyzing distributed systems, and driving data-driven performance improvements across engineering teams.

Location: Remote within the USA in specified states (CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, KS, MA, MD, ME, NJ, NC, NY, OR, TN, TX, VA, WA) with hybrid option in Austin, TX or Tampa, FL. Not eligible for visa sponsorship. Cannot work within Chicago city limits.

Salary: $150,000–$240,000 per year (varies by state)

What you will do

Design, implement, and maintain performance testing and data generation frameworks using k6, JavaScript, Grafana, and InfluxDB.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, architectural decision records, and performance standards.
Define and evolve best practices for performance optimization, scalability, and measurement.
Collaborate with engineering teams to analyze bottlenecks and drive remediation strategies.

Requirements

Must reside in the USA within specified states or be willing to work remotely from these locations.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
6+ years software engineering experience including 2+ years with k6 or other load test frameworks and JavaScript.
2+ years experience in cloud native environments, preferably AWS.
Strong background in performance design, tuning, and distributed systems.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash and Python.
