PhD - Agentic AI for ASIC Development Acceleration

Overview

In this PhD role you will explore AI-driven approaches to accelerate ASIC design and testing in sensing systems. You will collaborate with international experts to integrate AI-enabled workflows into the ASIC development lifecycle, enriching digital, analog/mixed-signal verification, and wafer testing. The position combines research, hands-on implementation, and dissemination of results through publications and conferences. You will contribute to Bosch Sensortec’s leadership in MEMS-based sensing while pursuing a topic with global relevance and impact.

Verantwortungsbereiche
  • Research state-of-the-art AI platforms and tools across commercial, open-source, in-house, and academic solutions
  • Deep-dive into the ASIC development process to identify AI-enabled improvements
  • Analyze and integrate multi-modal source solutions (XML register maps, VHDL, Python test descriptions) into machine-readable formats
  • Address high-impact use cases across the ASIC lifecycle: automated VHDL/code generation, automated test item generation for wafer testing, coverage-driven regression testing, AMS testbench generation, closed-loop evaluation and optimization of test cases
  • Assess architectural options for scalable and portable AI concepts (e.g., human-in-the-loop vs. automated AI agents)
  • Holistic integration of solutions into the ASIC development flow and data management using version control tools (e.g., GIT)
  • Collaborate with ASIC development experts and external partners; contribute to international projects
  • Publish research results in journals and present at conferences
Zentrale Anforderungen
  • Fundamental experience with AI tools, agent development and prompting
  • Strong Python scripting expertise
  • Basic understanding of VHDL, Verilog and coding; adept at handling various data formats
  • Familiarity with ASIC design methodologies (digital design, analog/mixed-signal simulation, wafer testing)
  • Knowledge of AI platform trade-offs for identified use cases
  • Software development experience is a plus
  • English proficiency mandatory; German language skills beneficial
  • Degree in electrical engineering, computer science or equivalent field (M.Sc. or Diploma)
