PhD - Development of a Novel Lab-on-a-Chip Component for the Analysis and Sorting of Single Cells

In this PhD role at Bosch, you will develop a novel dielectrophoresis chip for single-cell analysis and sorting. You will join our research team to automate sample preparation and high-throughput analyses using image-based DEP technology. You will explore CMOS-compatible manufacturing routes, fabricate a demonstrator, and validate it with living cells. You will work at the intersection of MEMS, microfluidics, and biomedical engineering to enable gentle, scalable multi-omics workflows.

• Develop and evaluate DEP-based chip concepts (electrical, microfluidic, thermal parameters)
• Design and fabricate a functional demonstrator using semiconductor processes
• Integrate the DEP chip into a microfluidic system and test with representative bioassays
• Investigate manufacturing routes compatible with Bosch CMOS technology
• Characterize the prototype and perform proof-of-concept across operating modes

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
• Strong knowledge of MEMS, microfluidics, and lab-on-chip design
• Experience in modeling microscale cell interactions
• Knowledge of optical signal processing; cleanroom experience is advantageous
• Excellent communication of research results and hands-on experimental skills
