PhD - Development of a Novel Lab-on-a-Chip Component for the Analysis and Sorting of Single Cells

Stellenbeschreibung:

Overview

Join a Bosch research project to develop a novel image-based DEP chip for single-cell analysis and sorting. You will advance automated, high-throughput multi-omics workflows using CMOS-compatible semiconductor fabrication. The role blends microfluidics, MEMS, and optical signal processing to push the limits of chip miniaturization and integration. You will design, fabricate, and validate a demonstrator that operates in physiological media, contributing to scalable life-sciences diagnostics. This position offers hands-on experimentation and cross-disciplinary collaboration within a mission-driven research environment.

Verantwortungsbereiche
  • develop and evaluate DEP chip concepts for single-cell isolation and analysis
  • determine robust electrical, microfluidic, and thermal operating parameters
  • investigate chip miniaturization limits and CMOS-compatible manufacturing routes
  • design and fabricate a functional demonstrator using semiconductor processes
  • integrate the demonstrator into a microfluidic system
  • characterize the prototype and perform proof-of-concept experiments with living cells
  • perform experiments across all operating modes using representative bioassays
  • document results and communicate research findings clearly
Zentrale Anforderungen
  • Master in Electrical Engineering, Microsystems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • strong knowledge of classical MEMS, microfluidics, and lab-on-chip systems
  • experience in microfluidic and electrical design for lab-on-chip applications
  • ability to model microscale cell interactions and to process optical signals
  • experience with cleanroom processes; knowledge of oncology advantageous
  • proactive, collaborative, and able to conduct experiments independently
  • proficiency in German and English (spoken and written)
  • clear communication
  • curiosity and initiative
  • structured, goal-oriented work approach
  • microfluidics
  • electrical design for lab-on-chip
