Photonics Circuit Designer (f/m/d)

Overview

As a Photonics Circuit Designer, you own the schematic, layout, and physical realization of photonic ICs, translating concepts into tape-out-ready blocks. You will collaborate with the Photonics Architect, device and simulation teams, EIC, and packaging engineers to align circuit design with manufacturing requirements. Your work bridges circuit design, IC implementation, and semiconductor fabrication, ensuring manufacturability and performance. Verantwortungsbereiche
  • Own PIC schematic capture and physical layout of photonic components, links, and full chip assemblies using industry-standard flows
  • Define PIC floor plans, waveguide routing, and interconnect structures balancing optical, electrical, and packaging constraints
  • Develop and maintain PDK-based design workflows, including pcells, models, and design rules for layout-simulation consistency
  • Drive verification and tape-out readiness (DRC/LVS, extraction debugging, verification closure) with foundry partners
  • Automate and improve design workflows via scripting, regression testing, layout checks, and data analysis
  • Document implementation decisions and communicate trade-offs across architecture, simulation, EIC, packaging, and product teams
Zentrale Anforderungen
  • Bachelor or Master in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, or related field with strong optics/electromagnetics/semiconductor device physics
  • 5+ years in PIC schematic capture and mask layout using Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys photonic flows, or equivalent
  • Experience implementing photonic IC designs with foundry PDKs, layout constraints and manufacturability considerations
  • Strong DRC/LVS experience with debugging and closure
  • Understanding of photonic device behavior (waveguides, coupling, losses, layout trade-offs)
  • Experience taking designs through tape-out and foundry submission
  • Strong Python scripting for layout automation, regression, verification, and data analysis
  • Collaboration across photonics, EIC, packaging, simulation, and product teams
  • Experience with Cadence Virtuoso or Synopsys photonic flows, Ansys Lumerical (FDTD, MODE, CHARGE/HEAT, INTERCONNECT), foundry PDKs, DRC/LVS toolchains, Python-based automation (NumPy, SciPy, pandas), Git
  • Experience with Verilog-A or compact models and semiconductor product development is a plus
