Postdoc in FEL Physics

About your role:

• Development of machine learning tools for photon and electron beam diagnostics
• Benchmarking simulations and experiments when there is an opportunity
• Encoding data from non-invasive single-shot diagnostics together with beam data investigation of photon pulse properties based on the transverse structure
• Support of FLASH operation
• Presentation of the achieved results in journals and conferences

About you:

• PhD in FEL physics with good knowledge of photon diagnostics
• Strong background with machine learning techniques for FELs
• Experience with experimental characterisation of FEL pulses or experience with the transverse deflecting cavity diagnostics
• Additionally, experience with numerical simulations (EleganUGenesis/ ... ) is an advantage
• Good Command of high-level scripting languages (Python/Matlab)
• Good command of English; knowledge of German is a benefit
• Excellent teamwork abilities in an international environment
• Experience with large-scale accelerator facilities and supercomputers is also a plus
