Postdoctoral Position in Agentic AI in Computational Modeling
Developing computational models and running computer simulations in science and engineering still requires substantial expert knowledge. Agentic artificial intelligence (AI) offers a great opportunity to automate these demanding tasks to a large extent.
We are offering a 2-year position as a postdoctoral researcher in the area of agentic AI in computational modeling .
Your Tasks
Together with our team, you will push the frontier of agentic AI systems in computational modeling . Specifically, you will:
- Develop systems that leverage agentic AI to automate the development and execution of computer simulations
- Aim to create largely autonomous systems for computational modeling
The main application areas include:
- Computational material science (macroscale and atomic scale)
- Biomedical engineering/biomechanics
- Process engineering
- Potentially environmental modeling (coastal research and climate research)
Your Profile
- Master's degree and PhD in computational engineering, applied mathematics, computer science , or a closely related field in computational modeling in science and engineering
- Strong background in the theoretical foundations of engineering, science, and applied mathematics
- Excellent academic performance, particularly in courses relevant to this position
- Very good programming skills in Python and ideally C++
- Proven experience in code development (will be assessed during the interview)
- Strong scientific communication skills in English
Advantageous (not mandatory):
- Prior knowledge in ontologies, knowledge graphs, and/or robotics
Our Offer
- Exciting and varied role in a research center with 1,000 employees from over 60 nations
- International Welcome Office with guest accommodation
- 6 weeks of holiday per year + company holidays between Christmas and New Year's Day
- Social benefits according to the collective agreement of the public service (TVöD) and remuneration up to EG 13 (EntgO Bund)
- Work-life balance : options for mobile and flexible work
- Well-connected research campus (public transport access), subsidy for the Deutschlandticket (job ticket, conditions apply), and charging facilities for electric vehicles
- Individual further training opportunities
- Excellent technical infrastructure and modern workplace equipment
- Family-friendly policies , including on-site childcare (nursery)
- Operational Health Management (e.g., Employee Assistance Program)
- Corporate Benefits and varied canteen offerings on campus
