The research group of Prof. Dr. Sophie Langer at the Faculty of Mathematics is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to strengthen the team in the area of the theory of deep learning, with a particular focus on the analysis of gradient descent algorithms. Our research develops the mathematical foundations of modern machine learning by combining tools from mathematical statistics, probability theory, optimization, and approximation theory. We study the theoretical properties of neural networks, reinforcement learning, and modern prediction problems arising in deep learning, with the goal of developing a rigorous mathematical understanding of contemporary machine learning methods.

Scope: full-time

Duration: fixed-term, 3 Jahre

• Active participation in research on the statistical theory of deep learning, in particular on the statistical theory of Transformer architectures.
• Teaching duties in exercise classes accompanying courses offered by the Faculty of Mathematics.

Your profile:

A PhD in Mathematics or Statistics with an excellent background in mathematical statistics.

Experience in teaching mathematics exercise classes, particularly for students in the natural sciences, engineering, or economics, is desirable.
