Principal BMS AI Algorithm Developer - Battery Management Systems / Embedded AI / Automotive / Edge AI

We are currently partnered with a leading automotive technology organisation developing next-generation intelligent Battery Management Systems (BMS) for advanced electric vehicle platforms. As part of their continued investment in AI-driven battery technologies, they are looking to hire a Principal BMS AI Algorithm Developer to lead the design and deployment of advanced embedded AI algorithms for battery diagnostics, prognostics, and safety-critical applications.

This is a principal-level technical leadership role focused on combining battery science, embedded systems, artificial intelligence, and automotive software to deliver real-time battery intelligence on resource-constrained embedded platforms.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced AI-driven diagnostic and prognostic algorithms for embedded Battery Management Systems (BMS).
  • Architect hybrid algorithmic solutions combining electrochemical battery models, impedance diagnostics, and machine learning techniques.
  • Develop real-time embedded algorithms for State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH), State of Power (SoP), battery degradation modelling, fault detection, and anomaly diagnosis.
  • Design predictive algorithms capable of identifying safety-critical events, including early indicators of thermal runaway and battery failures.
  • Apply Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) techniques to enhance battery diagnostics and health estimation.
  • Develop, simulate, and validate battery algorithms using MATLAB, Simulink, and Python.
  • Deploy and optimise AI models for embedded automotive platforms using C/C++, AUTOSAR, and embedded software frameworks.

Key requirements

  • Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electrochemistry, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Extensive commercial experience developing Battery Management Systems (BMS) within the automotive industry.
  • Strong expertise in battery cell chemistry, electrochemical behaviour, and battery degradation mechanisms.
  • Proven experience developing battery estimation algorithms, including State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH), State of Power (SoP), degradation modelling, and fault diagnostics.
  • Hands-on experience with Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and advanced battery diagnostic techniques.
