Principal CAP & BTP Cloud Native Engineer (m/f/d)

In this role you drive end-to-end backend topics for our cloud-native banking and development bank solutions. You will design and implement CAP services on SAP BTP, shaping architecture with domain modeling and event-driven patterns. You’ll own delivery from domain model to production, collaborating with product owners and architects. This is hands-on, with scope to mentor peers and set engineering standards. Your work contributes to accelerating digital transformation for financial services customers.

• Design, build and run CAP services (Node.js and/or Java) on SAP BTP, including CDS domain modeling, OData V4 service design, XSUAA authentication and Event Mesh integration.
• Own clearly scoped modules from initial cut to productive delivery.
• Shape clean architectures using Hexagonal, Domain Driven Design and CQRS, balancing elegance and delivery pressure.
• Integrate backend services with S/4HANA, RAP, and external APIs via Destination Service and Cloud Connector.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (MTAR, Cloud Foundry, trunk-based development) and ensure environment separation.
• Ensure quality through code reviews and automated tests (unit, integration, contract); follow coding guidelines.
• Document architectural decisions as ADRs and share knowledge via pair programming, mentoring, and brown bag sessions.
• Collaborate with Product Owners and Solution Architects to translate business requirements into shippable solutions.

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years with CAP and SAP BTP.
• Strong command of Node.js or Java, CDS and OData V4; backend exposure to Fiori Elements and SAPUI5 integration.
• Hands-on experience with Cloud Foundry, MTAR deployments and BTP services: XSUAA, Destination, Connectivity, Event Mesh, HANA Cloud.
• Solid knowledge of SAP integration patterns: RAP, ABAP Cloud, SAP Integration Suite, BTP ABAP Environment.
• Architectural skills: Domain Driven Design, clean layering, API design and versioning, security and data protection (GDPR).
• Proficiency with Git, trunk-based workflows, and modern engineering tooling.
• Ownership mindset, ability to manage risk and deliver under uncertainty.
• High travel readiness within DACH; fluent English and German (C1).
