About Us
Otera (otera.ai) is an agentic-native and purpose-built platform for global enterprises such as Allianz, Siemens, Bayer, and Zurich to build, deploy, and manage Autonomous AI Agents—turning manual, fragmented processes into autonomous operations at scale.
Otera's agents handle end-to-end business processes: reasoning across complex documents, scaling consistent high-quality decisions based on intricate business rules, and operationalizing tribal knowledge that traditionally lived only in the heads of experienced staff.
With €15 million raised in a Series A funding round co-led by Red River West, Alpha Intelligence Capital, and Hoxton Ventures, and the support of existing investors Lunar Ventures and Stride VC, we are accelerating our vision to become the go-to provider for AI-driven automation solutions across the globe.
About the Role
You’ll be one of a handful of technical leaders setting the multi-year direction of Otera’s platform.
You’ll pick the hard problems, drive them to a decision, and make sure they land in production. You’re comfortable being the most senior engineer in most rooms, and you know how to turn ambiguity into architecture, code, and operating discipline.
Responsibilities
- Lead cross-team technical initiatives across multi-region, multi-cloud, tenant isolation, agent-runtime architecture, data plane design, and cost and capacity strategy
- Own the platform’s scaling story through the funding round and beyond, including throughput, latency, cost, reliability, and SLOs
- Act as a trusted technical counterpart to Engineering, Product, and Security leadership
- Translate between customer architects and internal engineering teams
- Set the bar for architecture reviews, RFCs, incident response, and technical hiring
- Stay hands‑on in code where it matters most, including reference implementations, core libraries, hard debugging, and the nastiest incidents
About You
- 10+ years building and operating production distributed systems, with meaningful time at scale, either in high-traffic B2C or high-transaction B2B environments
- At least one cycle of owning architecture decisions that paid off
- Deep production experience with Python and TypeScript, our main platform languages
- The judgment to know when a problem needs a different tool
- A history of leading technical initiatives that span multiple teams: you wrote the RFC, drove consensus, and shipped the outcome
- Earned opinions on consistency models, failure domains, backpressure, tenant isolation, and the economics of running LLMs and vision models in production
- Experience with Azure, GCP, and/or AWS
- Ideally, experience with multi‑tenant and customer‑tenant deployment models
- Strong written communication skills
- The ability to make technically contentious calls land with both engineers and executives
- A track record of growing engineers around you, formally or informally
- A European base and the ability to overlap comfortably with a European working day
Nice to have
- Experience with LLM or agent runtimes, tool‑use orchestration, evals, or prompt/context engineering in production
- Exposure to OCR, document understanding, or computer vision pipelines at scale
- Prior Principal or Staff‑level experience at an enterprise B2B company selling into financial services or insurance
- Public technical writing, conference talks, or open‑source work that shows your judgment in the open
- Enthusiasm for co‑creating a modern Continuous Delivery environment grounded in trunk‑based development, TDD, and pair or ensemble programming
Motivated for the agentic coding age
Otera is an agentic company building agentic software.
We expect our engineers to use AI coding agents as a core part of how they work, not as a novelty. You should be fluent driving Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or similar tools in real workflows.
That means you know how to:
- Decompose work for agents
- Review agent output critically
- Write specs that agents can execute against
- Know when to take the keyboard back
At Principal level, we expect more than day‑to‑day fluency. You should have a considered view on how agentic coding changes engineering teams: how teams are structured, what “done” means, where human review still adds the most value, and how to keep a codebase coherent when several engineers and several agents are contributing to it in parallel.
Compensation, Perks & Benefits
- Remote Work & Culture: Enjoy the freedom to work from anywhere
- Be among the first 90 to revolutionize industry standards and be part of the next unicorn
- Gain access to top‑tier advisors and investors in their fields
- Work with high‑quality, state‑of‑the‑art equipment
- Competitive Salary Package
- The engineering org is small enough that Principal‑level decisions are load‑bearing, not advisory
- The problem space is genuinely novel: multi‑agent, document‑heavy, cross‑tenant, regulated, and customer‑cloud
- You’ll define the architectural spine of a company heading into a funding round on the back of real enterprise traction
We value diversity and promote it through empathy and respect. We assess based on professional skills, not on social background, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, or skin colour.
