Freelance Senior PCB & Hardware Design Engineer

Our client in Munich is looking for an experienced Freelance Senior PCB & Hardware Design Engineer for a hands‑on contract project.

This role is ideal for a freelancer who can take ownership of the complete hardware development process — from circuit architecture and schematic capture through to production‑ready PCB layouts, bring‑up and validation.

You will be working across analogue, digital, mixed‑signal and power electronics, supporting the development of complex electronic systems in a highly technical engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

• End-to-end hardware development from concept to production release
• Multi-layer PCB design and layout using Altium Designer
• Analogue, digital and mixed-signal schematic capture
• Power electronics design including SMPS, flyback converters and linear regulators
• High-current and high-voltage PCB design
• Impedance-controlled routing, differential pairs and matched-length traces
• Stack-up definition, DFM optimisation and production data preparation
• Sensor interfaces, signal conditioning and ADC/DAC design
• FPGA and microcontroller-based hardware design
• Hardware bring-up, testing and validation on the bench
• EMC-aware design and support through compliance activities
• Component selection, worst-case analysis, FMEA and design reviews

Your Profile

• Proven freelance/contract experience in PCB and hardware design
• Experience with complex multi-layer boards
• Confident across analogue, digital and power electronics
• Hands‑on experience with lab validation, debugging and hardware bring‑up
• Knowledge of EMC, DFM and production handover
• Comfortable working independently and taking technical ownership
• Availability to work on‑site/hybrid in Munich
• Freelance contract
