Project Director - Data Centres

The Role

An experienced Project Director is required to lead the delivery of a major data centre project in Berlin. The role carries overall responsibility for the project from pre-construction through to completion and handover, covering programme, commercial performance, safety, quality and client management.

The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary project team and coordinate closely with the client, consultants, subcontractors, supply-chain partners and statutory authorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the project from pre-construction through delivery, completion and handover.
• Take overall responsibility for programme, budget, commercial performance, safety and quality.
• Ensure contract and construction programmes are developed, maintained and achieved.
• Manage project costs, preliminaries, variations, extensions of time and final accounts.
• Review contract amendments and assess their commercial and operational implications.
• Oversee the appointment, compliance and performance of subcontractors.
• Drive value engineering throughout the design and construction process.
• Maintain strong relationships with the client, consultants, supply chain and project stakeholders.
• Lead and develop the project team, establishing clear responsibilities and accountability.
• Ensure compliance with company procedures, statutory requirements and industry best practice.
• Oversee practical completion, Building Control requirements, project close-out and handover.
• Provide accurate progress, commercial and performance reports to senior leadership.

Skills and Experience

• Proven experience leading major data centre or similarly complex construction projects.
• Strong commercial and contractual knowledge, including cost control, change management and final accounts.
• Experience managing projects from pre-construction through to completion.
• Strong understanding of construction programmes, design coordination, procurement, safety and quality.
• Demonstrable experience leading large, multidisciplinary project teams.
• Excellent client-facing, communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Relevant qualification in engineering, construction management or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Membership of a relevant professional body would be advantageous.
