Overview

Project Procurement Manager (m/w/d) at Baxter in Saalfeld, Thüringen. The role oversees procurement activities for international projects across the company, from early development through series launch and ongoing production.

Responsibilities

• Overall responsibility for all purchasing activities in global new projects (NPI) from concept to launch and for serial‑support projects in production.
• Steering complex procurements with focus on cost, schedule, quality, and risk.
• Parallel management of multiple projects within an international matrix organisation.
• Functional and site‑cross leadership of teams (leading without authority).
• Development and implementation of project, supplier and commodity strategies.
• Planning, controlling and execution of RFQ processes, supplier selection and award.
• Ensuring material availability for prototypes, pre‑series and series production.
• Conducting target costing, should‑cost analyses and business cases.
• Independent negotiation of complex pricing and contract terms with international suppliers.
• Coordination with Legal for contractual security, risk mitigation and compliance.
• Active supplier management including assessment, development and performance control.
• Identification, assessment and control of supply‑chain risks and escalation management.
• Central interface to Engineering, Production, Quality, Logistics, Finance and Legal.
• Guaranteeing efficient interface and information management in projects.
• Building and controlling a structured project and procurement reporting (KPIs, milestones, risks).
• Regular reporting and decision preparation for Baxter management.
• Deriving and implementing measures for target deviations.
• Ensuring compliance with governance, compliance and procurement standards.
• Continuous improvement of methods, tools and best practices in procurement.
• Contribution to continuous improvement and harmonisation of processes within the organisation.

Qualifications

• Completed technical or business studies or comparable qualification with relevant additional expertise.
• More than 7 years of substantial experience in strategic or project procurement, preferably in an international industrial company.
• Proven experience in leading complex cross‑site new projects (NPI) within corporate or matrix structures.
• In‑depth expertise in procurement of mechanical and/or electronic components and in building resilient supply chains.
• Excellent project management skills, analysis of complex issues and development of robust business cases.
• Strong competence in leading demanding price and contract negotiations at the international level.
• Confidence in dealing with stakeholders at all levels, including senior management, and a strong drive combined with team orientation.
• Experience cooperating with cross‑functional teams (Engineering, Operations, Finance, Legal) in an international environment.
• High intercultural competence and strong communication skills in a global organisation.
• Solid SAP knowledge and the willingness to continuously learn new methods, tools and digital solutions.
• Structured, analytical and solution‑orientated work style with high personal responsibility and results orientation.
• Fluent English in spoken and written form.
• Regular presence at the Saalfeld site (minimum 3 days per week) is expected.
• International travel willingness.
