The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract or as a public servant.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term initially for 3 years.
There is the possibility of an extension of three more years.
There is an possibility to obtain a postdoctoral qualification.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a full-time position with the possibility of a part-time contract upon request.
The standard working week is 39.83 hours for employees and 41 hours for civil servants.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L) or the Remuneration Act of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia (LBesG NRW).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L or A 13 LBesG.

You have a completed university degree (master's or equivalent) and a PhD in a field related to geological modeling, such as geosciences, (geo-)physics, computer science, simulation sciences, or engineering. You bring strong programming skills — in particular Python — and ideally experience in university teaching. You work independently, have excellent teamwork and communication skills, and are confident expressing yourself in English. Knowledge of German is advantageous but not required. Experience in acquiring and managing third‑party funded projects is a strong asset.
