Responsibilities
- Assist and support the Barley Pipeline Scientist in all aspects of breeding pipeline progression – in the execution, implementation and management of breeding projects in the field and in the greenhouse, such as pre‑selections and crossbreeding trials.
- Manage the breeding program: technical organization of sowing, TOPS trials creation, breeding field management, coordination of harvest and sowing preparation.
- Manage Purity MATS files and selections – A, B & R (PLP‑2, PLP‑1, PLP).
- Manage MATS before GS‑Pre selections.
- Conduct F1 and F2 checks, ensuring DH quality control.
- Deliver lists and communicate with DEBS operations and greenhouses.
- Assign material identity coding and creation duties.
- Plan hybrid production and place seed orders (Proseeds).
- Undertake DEBS field pre‑selections and record scores.
- Manage breeding data: record and input data, develop breeding material from stage to stage, and manage material using planning, breeding, and tracking tools.
- People management: instruct and support the operational team, train technical‑operational and seasonal staff.
- Operate within the budget‑driven framework for breeding program and operations.
Qualifications
- Master of Science (or equivalent) in Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Biology, or a related field.
- Deep knowledge of breeding methodologies, agronomy, and the barley market/quality profiles.
- Extensive hands‑on experience managing both field and greenhouse trials from setup to execution.
- Fluency in English and German (written and spoken) and ability to collaborate effectively with regional teams and stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency with databases and MS Office for processing large datasets.
- Structured, independent, and stress‑resistant work style with a focus on precision and priority setting.
