Research fellow (m/f/d) in project GAIN

Job Overview

We are seeking a research fellow (m/f/d) for project GAIN in the Department of Physics at Humboldt‑Universität zu Berlin. The position is part‑time at 75 % workload, funded until , and will contribute to the development of the Gravimetric Atom‑Interferometer (GAIN), a mobile quantum sensor for high‑precision gravity measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific support in research with the Gravimetric Atom‑Interferometer (GAIN)
  • Prepare, optimising, and operating GAIN for comparison measurement campaigns
  • Improve GAIN by implementing new technologies that enable additional measurement modes and gravity‑grad­eometry functionality
  • Collaborate closely with post‑doctoral fellows, doctoral candidates, and master students
  • Interact intensively with academic, institutional, and industrial partners
  • Present research results in international journals and conferences
  • Complete tasks that contribute to your own doctoral qualification

Qualifications

  • Completed scientific university education (master’s degree) in physics or a closely related field with a specialization in physics, optics, quantum optics, or laser physics
  • English language skills (B2 level) demonstrated by a certificate or sample
  • Good team spirit and ability to work effectively in a collaboration

Desirable Skills

  • Practical experience with ultra‑cold atoms/molecules and/or atom interferometry
  • Expertise in development and/or characterization of laser systems for laser cooling or precision measurement applications
  • Programming skills (preferably Python), experience with databases, data visualisation, and version control
  • General laboratory skills (especially optics, opto‑mechanics, opto‑electronics, RF‑electronics)
  • Knowledge of analog and digital electronics
  • Experience in computer‑aided design (preferably Autodesk Inventor)
  • Language skills in German and French (no minimum level required)
  • Gender and diversity sensitivity
