Stellenbeschreibung:

Overview

The Koeppel lab at EMBL is building a new research programme focused on genome engineering, functional genomics, and single‑cell genomics. We develop scalable genome‑editing technologies to generate, genotype, and phenotype thousands of designed structural variants in human cells, aiming to map sequence dispensability, decode non‑coding genome architecture, and lay the foundation for minimal mammalian genomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute ambitious genome‑engineering and genomics projects in human cell systems, including mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, CRISPR/Cas‑based perturbations, sequencing library preparation, and single‑cell genomics workflows.
  • Establish core experimental workflows, organize lab infrastructure, and maintain key reagents.
  • Shape a collaborative, warm, and rigorous lab culture from the beginning.
  • Mentor students and postdocs, troubleshoot experiments, and support projects across the group.
  • Collaborate closely with computational colleagues to analyze sequencing data and integrate single‑cell assays.
  • Develop independent project directions within the lab’s broader research programme, as opportunities arise.

Qualifications

  • University degree with additional lab experience or a PhD, or equivalent experience in molecular biology, genomics, genome engineering, cell biology, or a related field.
  • Highly skilled wet‑lab scientist with strong experience in complex molecular biology protocols.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, genome engineering, and sequencing library preparation.
  • Experience or enthusiasm for functional genomics approaches, multiplexed screening, or single‑cell assays.
  • Excellent organizational skills, independence, reliability, attention to detail, and strong communication/interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English is required.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary (Grade5, starting from EUR4031,02 after tax).
  • Comprehensive pension scheme, medical insurance, and other social benefits.
  • Relocation support, including installation grant and accommodation for family.
  • Flexible working arrangements, generous time off (30days annual leave plus public holidays), child‑care facility on campus.
  • Education and travel grants for international newcomers.

Equal Opportunity

EMBL is an inclusive, equal‑opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We encourage applications from all genders, identities, nationalities, and backgrounds.
