Our Profile

For decades, the WZL Machine Tool Laboratory at RWTH Aachen University has been synonymous with successful and forward-looking research and innovation in the field of production engineering. The Automation and Control Engineering Division at the Chair of Machine Tools focuses on automation and digitalization in manufacturing. The Cognitive Systems Group addresses the integration of human and artificial intelligence into smart production systems. To this end, artificial intelligence applications are developed to increase productivity and quality, often by combining AI and robotics. Additionally, the group examines the human-machine interface, for example through AR and VR in assistance systems, intelligent knowledge management, intuitive robot programming methods, or knowledge transfer via imitation learning.

Your Profile

  • Currently enrolled in a university or university of applied sciences in the fields of mechanical engineering, automation technology, computer science, or a related field
  • Programming skills in a high-level language (preferably Python)
  • Initial experience with or interest in developing artificial intelligence applications
  • Experience with ROS is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and high level of motivation

Your Duties and Responsibilities

To support current research and industry projects, we are looking for a student assistant to work at least 7.5 hours per week. The focus of the role is on contributing to industry and research projects with an emphasis on AI and robotics. As part of the project team, you will develop practical solutions for use in research and industry. Potential tasks include support in the programming innovative human-robot interfaces, implementing simulations in Nvidia Omniverse, or integrating and controlling robots.

What We Offer

The successful candidate will be employed as a student assistant.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of 12 months.
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 7,5 hours.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 15.20 euros per hour.
