The following full-/part-time position (38.5/19.5 hours per week) is to be filled as soon as possible in the Institute for Hygiene and Public Health, Section Global Child Health of the University Hospital Bonn:

Scientific coordinator (m/f/d)

The Section of Global Child Health was established in November 2025 with the appointment of the Endowed Professorship in Global Child Health. The Section’s remit includes research and teaching in Germany and internationally, as well as clinical practice and the applied, practice-oriented engagement with global health challenges affecting children and adolescents. The professorship is structured as a tandem appointment with a corresponding position at the University of Malawi, based in Lilongwe.

You will work in close collaboration with the section head in establishing sound research and communication networks with partners in Malawi and Germany.

The professorship focuses on research in the area of neonatal, child, and adolescent health in “Low and Middle Income Countries” (LMICs), identifies barriers to and solutions for improving global child health, and facilitates the transfer of epidemiological and clinical evidence into health care services with the goal of improving the health status of all children globally.

It facilitates institutional, national and international networking and collaboration with universities, academic institutions and key development partners.

In addition, it provides academic and health policy advice to national and international governmental as well as non-governmental organizations with regard to global child health.

The position is initially limited to three years and remunerated according to TV-L EG 13 (German tax ID is a prerequisite). If you currently live abroad, you should be willing to relocate to Germany temporarily. Subject to interest and feasibility, a temporary increase in the scope of employment through third-party funded resources is envisaged.

Tasks

• Strategic coordination and management of international research, education and clinical programmes across the two professorships and the EKFS network
• Planning, coordination, and monitoring of cross-institutional activities with academic and non-academic partners
• Management of communication channels between institutions, disciplines, and countries, ensuring efficient information flow and alignment of activities
• Coordination, and implementation of training materials and structured capacity-building programmes in collaboration with international experts
• Planning, organisation, and delivery of international workshops and seminars in online and on-site formats
• Preparation of annual progress and impact reports, dissemination of results through conferences and other scientific communication formats
• Contribution to the strategic development, coordination, and drafting of third-party funding proposals to expand and sustain programme activities

Requirements

• A full academic degree at Master’s level or higher in a health-related discipline
• A strong interest in global child health and international health systems cooperation
• Demonstrated experience in project coordination and research management
• Excellent organisational skills and a structured, meticulous approach to work
• Proven ability to navigate academic hierarchies and university administrative processes, combined with sensitivity to intercultural contexts
• Strong teamwork skills, resilience, and the ability to assert and represent set positions
• Full professional proficiency in both German and English, written and spoken, and willingness to maintain an appropriate on-site presence at the university in Bonn
• Previous extended study, research, or professional experience in a low- or middle-income country would be considered a strong asset
