Senior Backend Engineer – Core Engine, Decision Intelligence

Design and implement backend components for modeling dependencies, evaluating scenarios, and supporting reasoning and planning workflows
Build clear APIs, data structures, and interfaces to enable interaction between engine components and support future extensions
Turn prototypes and algorithmic concepts into maintainable, scalable software
Make well-founded decisions about whether to build in-house or integrate existing tools
Ensure component quality through automated testing, benchmarking, debugging, and profiling
Develop diagnostic tools and structures to trace results back to inputs, model versions, and assumptions
Work with the product team to translate customer use cases into technical acceptance criteria and reusable core improvements
Contribute to code reviews, documentation, and build and deployment workflows
Collaborate closely with the CTO and the engineering team

Requirements

Successfully completed degree in computer science, mathematics, software engineering, physics, or a comparable technical qualification
Strong programming skills in at least one backend language, such as Python, Java, C++, Go, or Rust
Experience working with existing codebases
Solid knowledge of algorithms, data structures, software design, and automated testing
Experience with API design and with data storage and data processing systems, taking performance and reliability requirements into account
Ability to independently break down complex and ambiguous problems, evaluate alternatives, and deliver reliable software increments
Excellent written and spoken German and English
Enjoy working in fast-paced, iterative development cycles as part of a team
Experience with graph-based systems or knowledge representation, planning, scheduling, or optimization, rule engines or constraint solvers, ML/LLM components, or transitioning research prototypes into production is a plus (not required)

Capable of designing APIs and data structures while collaborating effectively with product teams to translate use cases into technical solutions.
