Senior Casualty Underwriter

• Assessment of liability risks, individual underwriting and preparation of tailored proposals (including occasional presentations) for national and international coverage solutions for industrial and service companies, including related negotiations with brokers and clients


• Management of international liability programs, including English-language communication with foreign brokers, clients and colleagues within the company's international network


• Proactive market development, including identification of new business opportunities in close cooperation with sales and client management teams to strengthen AIG's position as a relevant liability insurer in Germany


• Development and implementation of specialized, innovative coverage and service concepts as differentiators to competitors


• Commissioning and participation in risk surveys as well as evaluation of technical reports and risk analyses, particularly relating to environmental, product liability and recall cost risks, followed by formulation of implications for coverage


• Analysis of liability insurance contracts and policy wordings from competitors and brokers, including active negotiation of standard terms with brokers


• Analysis and design of individual contract clauses and policy wordings


• Legal and coverage assessment, commentary and evaluation of contractual liability agreements in German and English


• Analysis of large losses with respect to liability and coverage issues


• Active participation in projects within and outside the department

Requirements

• University degree in law or business administration or a comparable field (master's degree preferred), or equivalent qualification


• Solid professional experience as an underwriter in industrial international liability business


• Several years' experience in developing insurance terms, concepts and wordings


• Convincing market presence and strong communication skills (including relationship building)


• Ease in dialogue and interaction with clients and brokers


• Team player with the ability to work independently, quick comprehension and decisiveness


• High level of self-motivation, resilience—especially under stress and tight deadlines— and assertiveness


• Strong service orientation—both internal and external


• Relevant experience with brokers or clients is an advantage


• Excellent German and English language skills


• Willingness to travel regularly (10–20%)
