Senior Counsel, Export Compliance (Contractor) (Fully Remote)

• Serve as a senior legal advisor on U.S. export control regulations, focusing on software, encryption, and technology classification.
• Work in a hybrid environment (2-3 days in office) near Ann Arbor, MI; Atlanta, GA; or San Jose, CA, or fully remote within the U.S.

Key Responsibilities:

• Classify products and software under the Commerce Control List (CCL) and determine ECCNs, licensing, and exceptions.
• Conduct end-use/end-user verifications, risk assessments, and compliance audits.
• Draft license applications, manage BIS submissions, and represent the company before government agencies.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 7 years of law firm and in-house experience in trade compliance with a focus on U.S. export controls.
• Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school and active bar membership.
• Expert knowledge of EAR, software classification, deemed exports, and FOCI structures.
