Senior Data & Backend Software Engineer (f/m/d)

In this role you will design, build, and operate scalable data systems that turn large volumes of flight data into reliable insights for engineers and operators. You will work within the Data and Analytics team to enable data-driven decisions across the company, shaping data pipelines, storage, and services. You will tackle data quality, governance, and observability to ensure low-latency access to trusted information. • Design, develop, and operate data systems that ingest, process, store, and serve data at scale
• Define ingestion, processing, storage, and access patterns for reliability and scalability
• Develop data services, APIs, pipelines, and data products for engineers, analysts, and stakeholders
• Design and implement robust ETL/ELT processes for diverse data sources
• Contribute to data architecture, modeling, and storage decisions for platform sustainability
• Ensure data quality and governance through validation, monitoring, and standards
• Provide observability and monitoring to enable rapid issue detection and resolution
• Author and maintain architecture docs, technical specs, and user docs
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and deliver impactful solutions
• Guide less experienced engineers and promote best practices and continuous learning

• Degree in software engineering, computer science, data science or similar
• Strong experience with batch and streaming data processing
• Solid understanding of time-series data concepts (sampling, decimation, signal integrity, frequency-domain)
• Experience with native data processing and DataFrame-based processing
• Excellent skills in querying, transforming, and optimizing large-scale datasets
• Understanding of modern data architectures (Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Medallion)
• Hands-on experience with Delta Lake and Apache Iceberg
• Experience with Apache Kafka and event-driven architectures
• Experience with modern data platforms (Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Snowflake)
• Strong software engineering principles (maintainability, testing, automation)
• Cloud infrastructure, networking, and platform operations knowledge
• Protobuf encoding and columnar formats (Parquet, Arrow, Zarr, Arrow Flight)
• Observability, monitoring, and telemetry solutions experience
• Experience with OLAP databases and/or TSDBs (e.g., ClickHouse, Apache Druid, InfluxDB)
• Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively and collaborate across disciplines
