We're partnering with a technology-driven organisation to hire a Senior Data Engineer to play a key role in shaping and scaling an enterprise data platform that underpins analytics and AI initiatives.
This is a senior, hands‑on role with architectural responsibility. You’ll work at the centre of the data ecosystem, evolving core platforms, improving performance and cost efficiency, and ensuring high standards across governance, security and data quality. The position combines technical leadership with delivery ownership and close collaboration across engineering, data and business teams.
You’ll design, build and operate scalable data platforms and pipelines that support both analytics and machine learning use cases. Ownership spans the full data lifecycle, including batch and streaming ingestion, transformation, storage, cataloguing and delivery, with a strong focus on reliability, performance and operational efficiency.
You’ll take an active role in defining and improving data architecture, data models and governance frameworks, helping establish standards that support long‑term scalability. This role also includes responsibility for shaping data projects end to end, from early concept and solution design through to execution and delivery, including advisory input into scoping and technical direction.
Driving the data engineering roadmap is a key part of the position. You’ll evaluate new tools and technologies, implement modern DevOps and DataOps practices, and ensure platforms remain robust, observable and secure. Collaboration is central, working closely with engineers, data scientists and stakeholders to translate requirements into durable technical solutions.
Mentorship is also an important element. You’ll support and guide other engineers, lead technical reviews and help embed best practices across the team.
This role suits someone with five or more years of experience owning and evolving complex data systems. Strong hands‑on experience with Python and SQL is essential, with exposure to additional languages such as Java, Scala or Rust considered valuable.
You should have practical experience working with modern cloud data platforms and lakehouse or warehouse architectures. A deep understanding of ETL or ELT patterns, data modelling, governance and security is expected, alongside a strong DevOps mindset covering containerisation, infrastructure as code, CI/CD and monitoring.
Clear communication and stakeholder management skills are important, as the role involves working across technical and non‑technical teams. Fluency in English is required, with German language skills considered an advantage.
