Senior Engineer - Camera Optical Design

In this role you will lead research and design of mobile imaging optics, from requirements and concept through prototyping and validation. You will tackle key challenges with innovative concepts, align with cross-functional teams, and pursue patents and publications. You’ll work on diverse optical systems—from fixed and zoom lenses to freeform optics—driving technical breakthroughs and contributing to Huawei’s imaging capabilities. • Perform design and development of imaging optics systems across various configurations (fixed focal, zoom, freeform)
• Analyze requirements and run system simulations to guide concept-to-prototype development
• Evaluate tolerancing, yield, straylight, and optimization of optical designs
• Lead design cycles from concept to product, including experimental setup and verification
• Engage with cross-departmental and cross-regional teams to leverage resources and support business goals
• Attend conferences, publish results, and file patents to protect core assets
• Standardize and maintain experimental setups and equipment; share knowledge to build team capability
• Stay abreast of advanced technologies and industry trends to identify new directions
• Communicate effectively with engineering and executive stakeholders

• Proven design and development experience in novel imaging optics systems
• Strong theoretical background in geometrical, diffractive and/or physical optics
• Experience with raytracing, optical design and simulation software
• Programming skills beneficial, especially Python or similar scripting languages
• Excellent problem solving, analytical, and goal-oriented work approach
• Strong communication skills at engineering and executive levels
• Ability to be adaptable, self-directed and work in dynamic conditions
