Senior Engineer – Medium Voltage Power Converter Control

In this role you own the control architecture for medium-voltage converter products, guiding the control hierarchy, modulation, sequencing, and fault management. You will develop and validate current, voltage, and power control algorithms and supervise real-time implementation across DSP/FPGA/MCU/SoC platforms. You’ll drive cross-team decisions and ensure robust validation from modelling to field commissioning, addressing system-level issues like harmonics and grid interaction. • Own control architecture for medium-voltage converter products including control hierarchy, closed-loop design, modulation, sequencing, protection coordination, and fault management
• Develop and validate current, voltage and power control, DC-link/capacitor balancing, multilevel modulation and synchronization algorithms
• Assess impact of topology, semiconductors, magnetics, sensing, gate drives and protection on control performance
• Lead real-time implementation of control algorithms on DSP, FPGA, MCU or SoC platforms
• Define functional partitioning, real-time interfaces, synchronization and fault-response paths across controllers
• Drive validation from modelling, SIL/PIL and HIL through power test benches, prototypes and field commissioning
• Resolve system-level issues (oscillations, weak-grid interactions, harmonics, nuisance trips)
• Establish reusable control modules, design guidelines and commissioning methods

• Deep understanding of power converter dynamics, digital control, closed-loop stability, sampling and delay effects
• Strong knowledge of current/voltage/power control, multilevel PWM, synchronization and power-cell balancing
• Good understanding of medium-voltage multilevel topologies, semiconductors, magnetics, DC links, sensing, gate drives and protection
• Proficiency in Embedded C/C++ and experience with DSP, MCU, FPGA or SoC control platforms
• Ability to handle algorithm discretization, fixed- or floating-point implementation, execution timing and computational-load optimization
• Practical capability in power test-bench and prototype commissioning, using waveforms, logs and measurement data for analysis
• Ability to drive technical decisions across control, hardware, software and system teams
• At least 10 years of industrial experience in power converter control
• Hands-on development experience with medium-voltage or high-power converter products
• Demonstrated ownership of at least one relevant product covering control concept, embedded implementation, prototype or validation and progression to field/production
• Experience with medium-voltage drives, STATCOM, HVDC, utility-scale storage PCS, wind converters or comparable products is preferred
• Experience with CHB, MMC, NPC/ANPC or other MV multilevel topologies is preferred
• Practical experience with HIL testing, power test benches or field commissioning
