Opportunity
This Senior Engineering Manager & Munich Site Lead position is located at Abbots Munich office in the Laralab GmbH. We are building next‑generation AI‑ and cloud‑based medical software, combining startup speed with the scale of a global healthcare leader. The role will drive growth by scaling delivery, building high‑performing teams, and establishing Munich as a key site within the organization.
Responsibilities
Software Engineering Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and scale distributed engineering teams; ensure high‑quality execution, predictable delivery, and continuous improvement.
- Represent engineering with internal executives, customers, partners, and regulatory bodies.
- Drive the advancement and integration of the current heart.ai product into a scalable medical software platform.
- Support the advancement of engineering processes into a global Digital Solutions quality management system.
- Manage external development partners, vendors, and suppliers; support sourcing, cost optimization, and delivery excellence.
- Support hiring of engineering talent, emphasizing innovative, UX‑focused, AI‑ and cloud‑based medical software solutions.
- Proactively identify and mitigate technical, delivery, and integration risks across programs.
Munich Site Leadership
- Serve as the site leader for the Munich Digital Solutions organization.
- Lead, inspire, and further develop the growing team of ~30 employees, coaching and mentoring direct reports.
- Guide long‑term Munich team vision, providing direction on key organizational and strategic decisions; support budgeting and resourcing activities.
- Define annual Munich site objectives and drive execution.
- Act as the primary escalation point for site‑related people, operational, and organizational challenges, partnering with global Digital Solutions leadership.
- Identify learning and development opportunities for the Munich team, including Abbott trainings, external trainings, and field visit programs.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical/computer engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 10+ years in software engineering with 5+ years leading multi‑team engineering organizations building cloud‑native or hybrid solutions.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills; ability to influence across enterprise functions.
- Demonstrated success leading development, delivery, and operation of complex, scalable systems across cloud and/or edge.
Preferred
- Master’s degree (e.g., MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Engineering Management).
- Experience in regulated healthcare, medical devices, or similar regulated industries; familiarity with quality systems and software lifecycle standards (e.g., IEC 62304).
- Proven experience scaling and integrating small, local teams into an international enterprise context.
- Track record of developing platform‑based software products that enable self‑service and scale across product teams (SDKs, API‑based products, templates, reference architectures).
- Experience working with third‑party vendors, SLAs, and managing technical contracts or sourcing negotiations.
