Senior Hardware Engineer – High-Speed Design (Contract)

We're looking for an experienced Hardware Engineer to join an international technology organisation developing next-generation high-speed digital hardware.

This is a hands‑on R&D contract role focused on the bring‑up, measurement, and debugging of complex high-speed systems, including PCIe Gen6/Gen7 technology. You will work closely with hardware design and Signal Integrity (SI) teams, using advanced laboratory equipment to characterise performance, investigate failures, and optimise new designs.

The Role

• Bring up and validate complex high-speed boards and systems, including PCIe Gen6/Gen7.
• Plan and perform high-speed measurements and characterisation, including S‑parameters.
• Debug hardware issues and carry out failure analysis at board and system level.
• Work closely with design and Signal Integrity teams to optimise hardware and PCB layouts.
• Develop and improve engineering tools, test boards, and breakout boards.
• Investigate technical issues identified following product release.
• Collaborate with engineering teams internationally.

What We're Looking For

We're interested in experienced hardware engineers with a strong background in high-speed digital design, board bring‑up, or hardware debugging.

Ideally, you will have:

• Several years' experience in hardware development or hardware debugging.
• Strong knowledge of high-speed technologies such as PCIe and SerDes.
• A solid understanding of signal integrity and high-speed design principles.
• Hands‑on experience with board bring‑up and laboratory validation.
• Experience using high-speed oscilloscopes, VNAs, and/or BERT equipment.
• Proven ability to apply knowledge of S‑parameters, transmission lines, and electromagnetic field theory.
• Experience with Siemens Xpedition, particularly for schematic design.
• A structured and analytical approach to technical problem-solving.
• Experience with ADS simulations would be advantageous but is not essential.

You must hold a university degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a comparable technical discipline.
