Senior / Principal Systems Engineer – Hydraulics & Controls

Location: Germany – Hamm area (onsite only) Salary: €95,000 – €115,000 + benefits (negotiable)

Extensive Excavator or Wheeled Loader Machine experience is essential . You will be a technical authority for hydraulics systems development optimisation and future platform design working closely with local engineering teams and the wider global R&D organisation.

Background: Lead Systems Engineer – Hydraulics & Controls

This position sits within an established and growing construction machinery OEM and provides the opportunity to influence the design of future Excavator / Wheeled loader machine platforms.

As a Lead Systems Engineer – Hydraulics & Controls , you will act as a senior technical authority for the hydraulic systems and electro-hydraulic controls that underpin the performance of next-generation excavator and/or wheel loader platforms.

Your focus will be on hydraulic system architecture, machine behaviour, control strategy, optimisation and performance , working across engineering teams in Europe and Asia to develop high-performing, efficient and robust hydraulic systems for off-highway construction machinery.

Your Role: Lead Systems Engineer – Hydraulics & Controls

• Provide technical guidance and expertise in the development, optimisation and performance of hydraulic systems and electro-hydraulic controls for excavator and/or wheel loader platforms
• Work closely with engineering teams in Europe and China to define, develop and optimise hydraulic system architecture, control strategies and machine behaviour
• Act as a technical authority on hydraulic system performance, helping engineering teams resolve complex technical issues and make informed design decisions
• Develop and evaluate hydraulic system concepts, architecture and control strategies for current and future machine platforms
• Support the integration of hydraulic and control systems into prototype machines, including system commissioning, testing, calibration and fault finding

Your Background: Lead Systems Engineer – Hydraulics & Controls

• Significant engineering experience within the construction machinery sectors specifically working on hydraulic systems for excavator or wheeled loader machines for construction applications (this is essential and non-negotiable)
• Deep understanding of hydraulic system architecture, hydraulic performance and electro-hydraulic control
• Experience optimising machine hydraulic performance, including productivity, efficiency, responsiveness and operator controllability
• Proven experience developing or improving hydraulic systems at machine/system level , rather than solely designing individual hydraulic components
• Strong understanding of pumps, valves, pressure and flow control, hydrostatic systems and hydraulic circuit optimisation
• Good understanding of the interaction between hydraulic systems, electronic controls, powertrain and machine performance
• Degree qualified or equivalent in mechanical, mechatronics, hydraulic engineering or a related discipline

You will be required to travel internationally, occasionally to China, to work with the wider engineering organisation and support prototype development, testing and technical reviews. Typically, this is expected to involve several trips per year, depending on project requirements.

This role is based onsite in the Hamm area and is commutable from cities such as Dortmund, Münster, Essen, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Bielefeld, Bochum, Duisburg, Wuppertal, and Bonn.
