Umbilical is proud to partner with a leading technology and engineering organisation to search for an experienced Project Leader to oversee R&D projects in satellite communications and broadcast systems.
This role offers the opportunity to manage complex development projects across hardware, firmware, software, testing and production disciplines. You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing multi-disciplinary R&D programmes from concept through development, verification, and handover to production – ensuring delivery to schedule, budget and quality targets. The position involves close collaboration with product management and engineering stakeholders, structured project documentation, and clear communication with internal and external partners.
Role Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and manage research and development projects in the area of satellite communications and broadcasting systems
- Coordinate cross‑functional technical disciplines (hardware, firmware, software, testing, production) and ensure effective collaboration
- Take responsibility for project timelines, budgets and quality targets, and implement corrective actions in case of deviations
- Organize and facilitate regular project meetings, technical reviews and coordination activities
- Work closely with product management, service, engineering and other key internal interfaces
- Ensure proper project documentation, structured handover processes and transparent communication with internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications
- Degree in electrical engineering, communications engineering, systems engineering or a comparable technical discipline
- Fundamental understanding of complex communication systems, ideally including satellite or broadcast infrastructures (e.g. ground segment/uplink)
- Experience working within interdisciplinary teams in a matrix organisation
- Confident presence, strong communication skills, assertiveness and problem‑solving ability
- Strong results orientation with the ability to motivate and align project teams
- Fluency in German and English, both spoken and written
Due to the nature of this role, holding an EU passport is critical.
