Senior Safety Engineer – Railway Systems (m/f/x)

Stellenbeschreibung:

MAAP is looking for a Senior Safety Engineer to support railway infrastructure projects within an international engineering environment.

In this role, you will contribute to safety‑related engineering activities throughout the full project lifecycle, supporting multidisciplinary teams in the development, analysis, and delivery of safety documentation and solutions aligned with applicable industry standards and project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage safety documentation in accordance with CENELEC standards (EN 50126, EN 50128/50716, EN 50129).
  • Define, plan, and execute safety activities across the full system lifecycle in accordance with CENELEC standards (EN 50126, EN 50128/50716, EN 50129).
  • Support ETCS (European Train Control System) projects from concept phase through implementation and approval.
  • Lead safety activities related to ETCS trackside systems (L1/L2 as applicable), including interfaces with interlocking, RBC, and telecom subsystems.
  • Ensure correct application of ETCS / UNISIG principles within the safety framework.
  • Allocate and manage safety requirements at system, subsystem, and component level, ensuring traceability and consistency.
  • Produce and review safety deliverables, including Safety Case, Safety Argument, and supporting evidence, in accordance with EN standards.
  • Coordinate and technically support Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) activities.
  • Interface with system engineering, RAMS, validation & verification, and project management teams.
  • Coordinate with customers, suppliers, and certification bodies (e.g., NoBo, DeBo, AsBo, PSV-Zp).
  • Ensure compliance with Deutsche Bahn requirements and relevant national/international regulations.
  • Contribute to risk assessment processes according to CSM-RA. Support audits, reviews, and technical meetings with stakeholders.

Profile

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Railway Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a comparable technical field.
  • Proven experience in railway ETCS signaling projects, ideally with ETCS (Level 1 / Level 2).
  • Strong knowledge of CENELEC safety standards (EN 50126/8/9) and CSM Regulation (EU 402/2013).
  • Requirements management and traceability (e.g. DOORS, Polarion, Teamcenter or equivalent).
  • Proven experience on ETCS / ERTMS projects in a safety‑related capacity.
  • Experience in safety analysis techniques (FTA, FMEA, Hazard Analysis).
  • Familiarity with German railway regulations and approval processes is a strong advantage.
  • Structured and analytical way of working with high attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in interdisciplinary and international teams.
  • Fluent in English and German.
