Job Description
At zooplus, we’re building the technology behind one of Europe’s largest online pet platforms. As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll join the team responsible for zooplus Club, our membership and loyalty platform that serves millions of customers across more than 25 European markets.
What you’ll do
- Design, build and maintain scalable backend services using Kotlin
- Develop APIs, event-driven services and microservices that power our loyalty platform
- Own features throughout the full software development lifecycle---from technical design and implementation to deployment and production support
- Contribute to the evolution of our event-driven architecture and cloud-native platform
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers and engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and participate in code reviews and pair programming
- Monitor, troubleshoot and continuously improve application performance, reliability and scalability
- Help shape engineering best practices, tooling and development processes
- Embrace a DevOps culture where teams build, deploy and operate the services they own

Qualifications
What you’ll bring
- Significant commercial experience building backend applications using Kotlin or Java
- Experience designing and developing scalable microservices and distributed systems
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, clean code and testing principles
- Experience building REST APIs and backend services
- Good knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle
- Experience working in Agile development teams
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, containerisation and CI/CD pipelines
- A collaborative, growth-oriented mindset with a willingness to learn React, contribute across the stack, and support teammates by wearing different hats when needed
- Strong problem-solving skills with a collaborative and proactive mindset
- Comfortable taking ownership of solutions throughout their lifecycle
- Professional proficiency in English
Nice to have
- Experience with AWS services
- Experience with Kubernetes
- Experience using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
- Experience working with event-driven architectures
